Commonly known as PETG or PET-G, this is a thermoplastic polyester that offers chemical resistance, durability, and excellent processability. It is highly popular for both consumer and commercial applications, including 3D printing and other thermal manufacturing technologies.

Advantages of PETG

In general, PETG plastic is food-safe and commonly used for food containers and beverage bottles.

Applications of PETG

PETG is an excellent material for use in modern 3D printers. With proper print settings, PETG filament prints easily, provides excellent layer adhesion, and is free from unpleasant odors. It also has very low shrinkage, enabling larger prints compared to, for example, ABS. At the same time, it is extremely strong and chemically resistant, making it suitable for printing high-temperature-resistant objects, food-safe applications, and impact-resistant parts.

What is the Difference Between PET and PETG?

Although these compounds may appear similar, they are fundamentally different at the molecular level. PET is the result of combining two monomers.
PETG also includes glycol, which gives it different chemical properties than PET.
PETG is less brittle and more flexible than PET, making it ideal for bottles. It also has better impact resistance.

Note

PET-G adheres well to most common print surfaces—sometimes too well. When printing on PEI or glass, we recommend using a glue stick (e.g., Kores), hairspray, or 3Dlac.
