Commonly known as PETG or PET-G, this is a thermoplastic polyester that offers chemical resistance, durability, and excellent processability. It is widely used in consumer and commercial applications involving 3D printing or other heat-based manufacturing technologies.

Applications of PETG

PETG is an excellent material for use in modern 3D printers. With proper print settings, PETG filament prints easily, has excellent layer adhesion, and is odorless. It also has very low shrinkage, allowing for larger prints compared to, for example, ABS. At the same time, it is extremely strong and chemically resistant, enabling the printing of objects that can withstand high temperatures, food-safe applications, and significant impact.

What is the difference between PET and PETG?

Although these compounds appear similar, they are fundamentally different at the molecular level. PET is the result of combining two monomers.
PETG also includes glycol, which gives it different chemical properties compared to PET.
PETG is less brittle and more flexible than PET, making it ideal for bottles. It also offers better impact resistance.

Note

PET-G adheres well to most standard print surfaces—sometimes even too well. When printing on PEI or glass, we recommend using a glue stick (e.g., Kores), hairspray, or 3Dlac.
