PLA Premium 3D Filament – Printing Filament for 3D Printers
Polylactic Acid (PLA)
Commonly known as PLA, this is one of the most popular materials used in desktop 3D printing. It is the default filament choice for most extrusion-based 3D printers because it can be printed at low temperatures and does not require a heated bed. PLA is an excellent material to start with when learning about 3D printing, as it is easy to print, very affordable, and produces parts that can be used for a wide range of applications. It is also one of the most environmentally friendly filaments currently on the market. PLA is derived from crops like corn and sugarcane, making it renewable and biodegradable.

Overall, PLA filament is one of the best materials to work with: it’s not sensitive to temperature changes, has great surface quality, and is ideal for printing complex objects. It’s widely popular because it is easy to use and cost-effective. It’s suitable for both beginners and advanced users. PLA filament should be stored in a dry place, away from sunlight. PLA absorbs moisture easily, which can make it brittle over time if stored in a humid environment. It can also deform when exposed to excessive heat.
Common Uses:
PLA filament is commonly used to produce intricate parts and details, including corners, sharp edges, and small components. It is often used to create architectural models, aesthetic and conceptual models, and casting molds.
It is especially popular for prototyping. Due to its lower price compared to most other materials, makers and developers can test various prototypes without significant cost. Its biodegradability also means it has a lower environmental impact.
Benefits of PLA Filament:
The main advantages of PLA filament include its compatibility with desktop 3D printers, ease of printing at low temperatures, and strong adhesion with most adhesives, including cyanoacrylate and specialized plastic glues.
PLA is also fairly easy to paint—using a primer is recommended. It is the most common material for prints that will be painted afterward.
Note:
The material can be printed even on a non-heated bed. However, we recommend (especially for beginners) setting the bed temperature to 55–60°C. The print bed should be properly degreased, for example by washing it several times with hot water and dish soap. Glue stick (e.g., Kores) can be used on the bed, and 3Dlac works very well. The material should be stored in a dry environment. Moist filament should be dried at 45 to 50°C for at least 6 hours.
Our PLA is optimized for the “Prusament PLA” print profile.
