About PC Blend

Prusament PC Blend (polycarbonate) is a filament ideal for highly durable 3D prints.

Polycarbonates are a group of plastics that are known for their strength, toughness, and mechanical and temperature resistance. They are commonly used for the production of CDs, goggles or car headlights.

The composition of pure polycarbonate is almost unusable material for 3D printing. It adheres very poorly to the printing pad and deforms and cracks on cooling due to high thermal expansion. We have added additional additives to the polycarbonate to facilitate printing, improve adhesion to the printing substrate, reduce warping and cracking while maintaining the excellent mechanical properties of polycarbonate. The result is our new Prusament PC Blend.

Prusament PC Blend is recommended especially for experienced 3D printers. It is certainly not suitable for a novice printer as a first print material. This should always be PLA or PETG. Polycarbonate is an excellent plastic for printing prototypes and functional items, heat-stressed parts and mechanically stressed components.

Preparing the printing plate

PC Blend can be printed on both grain and smooth printing plates, provided that the substrate is lightly coated with an adhesive stick (e.g. KORES). Printing without adhesive, which serves as a layer to separate the printout from the substrate, risks damaging the printing plate.

Use sufficient isopropyl alcohol to wash off any adhesive residue and wipe it off with a paper towel. Avoid washing with water, especially for grainy sheets. In this case, there is a risk of rusting of the plate and thus irreversible damage.

Print settings

Jet 275±10 °C
Heating pad 110±10 °C

Basic features

Does not contain styrene

Large models can wiggle

High temperature resistance up to 113 °C

High printing temperatures of the pad and nozzle

Very good dimensional stability compared to other PC filaments

Higher price

High impact and wear resistance

Slight odour during printing

Prints do not deform under stress over time (creep resistant)

Models curl less, cracks in layers are exceptional

No need to dry before printing (it is minimally hygroscopic)

Notes

The PC Blend filament is manufactured directly by Prusa Research.

This 1.75 mm filament was produced with an accuracy of ±0.03 mm.

PC Blend Prusaments have a new formula as of 9 June 2021. The density of the material is now slightly lower, so the minimum weight of the coil is 970 g. The approximate length of the filament on the spool remains unchanged at 330 m - the same as for standard Prusaments.

To dry the filament, follow the instructions in our article
